China’s automotive giant Changan has officially unveiled its first EV in the Australian market, the Deepal S07 electric SUV, at a function at Bondi. Beach was announced to have an official local distributor to help bring this EV brand’s products to Australian customers.
The S07 will be available in a single variant, with a rear-wheel-drive electric powertrain and a uniquely sharp design to keep things simple. Prices have not yet been released, but the Deepal S07 is expected to deliver around 475 kms of range with its large 79.97 lithium battery pack, and a rated consumption of 18.6 kWh/100 km.
Cormac Cafolla, the GM of Deepal Australia, says the car will offer consumers a “practical and innovative SUV that combines futuristic design elements with advanced technology to create a stylish, enjoyable and comfortable rear-wheel drive mid-sized electric SUV.
“Deepal is about more than cars; it’s about electric vehicles that elevate your driving experience through harmoniously blending nature, technology and human experiences, and connecting with communities – and the S07 is a true reflection of this commitment.”
One feature worth noting is the V2L – vehicle-to-load capability of the S07, which is rated at a discharge rate of up to 3.3 kWh.
This SUV has a length of 4,750 mm, a width of 1,930 mm and is 1,625 mm high. For comparison, the Tesla Model Y has the same length and a lower width than the S07.
There is a frunk on offer with 125 litres of space, while the boot has 445 litres with the rear seats up or 1,385 litres with the seats down.
The S07 is available in 7 colours, which include:
- Comet White
- Lunar Grey
- Eclipse Black
- Nebula Green
- Celestial Blue
- Two premium colours are available at an additional cost
- Cosmic Yellow
- Sunset Orange.
There are two trims on offer for the interior – black and orange – and there is a large 15.6-inch floating centre infotainment screen. This screen can be rotated 15 degrees to provide the driver with a better angle.
As standard, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are also available to help owners bring their most useful apps into the car. There is also a heads-up display.
The S07 has several modes that are both functional and interactive for owners and passengers. These include:

- Season Mode – Bonfire and Snow
- Lighting Show
- Human and Pet Detection
- Camping Mode
- Car Wash Mode
On the warranty front, the Deepal S07 comes with a 7-year/160,000 km warranty on the vehicle, while there is an 8-year/240,000 km warranty on the battery pack.
Deepal retail network is currently being finalised and will be announced in the coming weeks.
Pricing is to be released closer to the arrival of the vehicle, which is expected to be next month in November. Interested buyers can enquire about the vehicle online.
